Signing in

Passwords, sign-in links, two-factor codes, and what to do when none of it works.

Your account lives at the organization's own web address — something like volunteer.yourfestival.ca. Signing in somewhere else will not find you, because two organizations can each have a volunteer with your email address and they are kept entirely separate.

Two ways in

A password. You set one when you claimed your invitation. Any password manager can fill it; nothing on the sign-in page blocks pasting.

A sign-in link. Choose *Email me a sign-in link* and a one-time link arrives by email. It is good for a short while and once only. This is the better option if you volunteer once a year and have no intention of remembering a password, and it is exactly as secure as one — anybody who can read your email can reset a password anyway.

Forgotten password

*Forgot password?* on the sign-in page sends a reset link to your address. The link expires, and using it signs you out of your other devices, which is the point: if somebody else had your password, they no longer do.

Two-factor codes

Some organizations require a second step for coordinators and administrators. If yours does, you set up an authenticator app once and enter a six-digit code when you sign in on a new device.

You are given recovery codes at the same time. Save them somewhere that is not the phone running the authenticator — a password manager, or paper in a drawer. If you lose the phone and have no recovery code, an administrator has to reset your account by hand, and they will want to be sure it is you.

When none of it works

  • "No account found." You are probably on the wrong organization's address, or you applied with a different email. Check the address in the confirmation email you were sent.
  • The link says it has expired. They are one-use and short-lived on purpose. Request another.
  • You were signed out in the middle of something. Sessions end after a period of inactivity and, regardless of activity, thirty days after you signed in. Sign in again; nothing you saved is lost.

If you are stuck, the organization can see your account and sort it out. Their address is in the footer of every email they send you.
